Oh so close to completion of my new Medusa. The first cut may be the deepest but the last few cuts are often just tedious, especially when all I want to do is go outside and play.
‘Sally Tickled Pink’, 5x7”, 2018. I know that I say this every year around this time but If you are interested in commissioning a portrait to be given as a gift this Holiday season, please take a moment to reach out to your artist of choice soon, y’all! Artists need sufficient time to create something beautiful for you and many, like myself, have wait lists. It seems inconceivable to be considering Christmas presents on a beautiful August sunshiney day but I don’t want you to be SOL come November, my Darlings! Kisses!
Ladies and Gentlemen, we can rebuild her. We have the technology. Better than she was before. Better. Stronger. Faster. Cause sometimes you just don’t get it on your first attempt.
Today’s work in progress. Why does it feel like I’m doing math today?!
Here we go again! Have been taking pics of my gal pals for a new collection of work based on the myth of Medusa. The transformation Big D Crooksie has begun!
This is what a pile of duct tape looks like when you strip an old piece of art, that never really ‘worked’, to reuse the panel. It was a pack of hyenas attacking a pink zebra on a lonely highway but when I stripped away the tape, I found the ghost image of a girl etched into the panel. This is the second time that I’ve stripped and reused this board. Third times the charm? Fingers crossed! #monasuperhero #ducttape #ducttapeart #workinprogress #wip
Just a reminder that prints of 'Cast Into the Wind and Set Ablaze' are available for the Early Bird Special price until July 18th. Have a beautiful day! www.monasupehero.com/ducttapeartprints/castintothewind
Eric McFadden and I are still looking for this piece of stolen art. Stolen from his home in Los Angeles. Please keep your eyes open. This piece is out there somewhere and we would love to bring it home!
'Cast Into the Wind and Set Ablaze' is the third portrait that I've done of my dear friend Erin Walters. She moved down to La La Land a few years ago to pursue a career as a makeup artist and she's straight up killing it. She's such a badass. I'm so proud to know her and I hope that we will continue to make bitchin' art together for years and years and years to come. Check out her amazeballs work at @erinwaltersmua.
I had all of the fun transforming Erin into Medusa for 'Cast Into the Wind'. It was the first big piece that I finished after my spine surgery and it feels like the embodiment of both the pain and fear that I felt in those eight months and of my irrepressible joy at being able to create again. She will always have a special place in my heart. Pre Order your print of 'Cast Into the Wind and Set Ablaze" by July 15th to take advantage of Early Bird Special pricing. Printed on beautiful archival paper using vibrant archival inks, "Cast Into the Wind' is up for grabs in two sizes. The 11x14" is available for $25, the 13x19" is $35. They will be $35. and $45., respectively, after the 15th. Prints are signed by the artist and will be ready for shipment July 23rd. Pre Order your print at www.monasupehero.com/ducttapeartprints/castintothewindThank you!
‘Gather aye Rosebuds While Ye May’, 24x36” I know that I always say that ‘this is my favorite piece that I’ve ever done’ but I mean it this time, y’all. I feel like this piece perfectly reflects the constant, underlying fear, anxiety and despair that I feel for my country and my ardent desire to not let the bastards get me down. Never give up, never surrender. Happy Saturday, Brothers and Sisters!

Ugh, this piece feels like it’s taking forever and that it will never end. Appropriate considering it’s inspiration. Plus, my hands are sweaty and it’s making the tape not sticky. Whine.
Fun fact: the skeleton is made with glow in the dark duct tape. It’s pretty killer.
Here’s another piece that I started last Summer but couldn’t finish cause of my stoopid back injury. Still seems relevant.
Many thanks and much love to James and Bud for their patience!! They commissioned a ‘sexy cowboy’ from me last summer, right before the back injury that kept me abed for months on end. I finally completed ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’. He’s 24x36” and was inspired by the Eagle Creek Fire. Remember how the sky was orange and hazy? It was terrible and sad but surreal and beautiful, too.
Mother said there’d be days like this. Days when you just have to rip it all up and start over.
Had a terrific Memorial Day Weekend but now it's time to get back to work!
